ARC has been facilitating leadership, literacy and wilderness experiences for high school youth since 2004.

Programs

In ARC’s outdoor classroom, students have the space to think critically about their stories, their academic challenges, and their post-secondary aspirations. After climbing peaks, exploring nature, and learning new skills, ARC youth envision a brighter future for themselves in school and beyond.

ARC’s innovative year-round programming is rooted in the integration of rigorous academic instruction and outdoor education, and it truly changes lives. ARC inspires youth to become life-long learners, stewards of the environment, and leaders in their schools and community.

Why We Do What We Do

The Need

The majority of California high school students are not passing the English Language Arts/Literacy component of the CAASPP exam, indicating they do not have basic college English proficiencies.

Research shows that wilderness/outdoor experiences provide learning opportunities that traditional classrooms do not.

What we do

ARC’s common-core aligned English Language curriculum offers hundreds of hours of instruction to address this need for its participants.

In ARC’s outdoor learning environment, with a 6:1 student-to-staff ratio, students change their perception of academics and shift the trajectory of their lives.
